You start from a film and get products out of it: subtitles, dubbing into another language, a screenplay (PDF and Fountain) and a novel based on the film. The work is automatic: you upload the film, choose what you need and the platform does the rest.
A link to a film on a public site (for example an archive.org page) or a file from your computer (mp4, mkv, avi, mov, webm). YouTube links don't work: download the file and upload it.
The film can be up to 1 hour and 30 minutes long and up to 1.6 GB.
It's recommended for use with public-domain footage, such as that available in digital archives, or with videos you have the rights to use. You are responsible for what you upload (see the Terms).
Dubbing in 9 languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Russian and Romanian.
Subtitles, screenplay and novel in Italian, English, Spanish, French and German.
The original film can be in a great many languages: we detect it ourselves.
For a film of an hour and a half, roughly:
If other jobs are in the queue, times can get longer.
Dubbing goes in 10-minute segments: you can do one to try it or ask for all of them. The first time, the film has to be prepared (characters and screenplay): for a film of an hour and a half this can take about an hour and a quarter; if the screenplay already exists, dubbing starts almost straight away. Then each segment is ready in about 20 minutes. Segments are done one after the other: a whole film of an hour and a half takes about 3 hours.
Each character is given a voice, which stays the same for the whole film. The voices are generated by artificial intelligence: when the film allows it they take on the timbre of the character's original voice, so everyone stays recognisable in another language too. The film's music, noise and effects stay under the new voices.
When the segments are ready, you download the whole dubbed film from Export video.
Who is speaking is recognised automatically and it sometimes gets it wrong, especially with similar voices or characters who speak little.
With Change the words you can say who speaks a line: only that line is redone, in about half a minute. If the mistake keeps happening, write to us from Support (top right) with the film and the minute: we use it to improve recognition.
It lets you change what a character says, or who says a line. The new line's syllables must be close to the original's (within about 5%), otherwise the lips won't match.
It costs a tenth of a minute per correction (10 corrections = 1 minute). Before buying you can try it 3 times on the example film's scene.
Jobs are paid for in minutes, bought in packs: 90 minutes for €15, 180 for €25, 450 for €50. They never expire.
When you sign up you get 10 free minutes of dubbing, once: you use them on one of your films, in one language (see the question on the free minutes).
Dubbing: 1 minute for every minute of film, in each language. Novel: 1 minute for every 3 minutes of film, rounded up, from 5 to 30 minutes (a 15-minute short uses 5, a 90-minute film 30). Screenplay: 15 minutes, included with dubbing. Film analysis, subtitles and video downloads are included.
You add your first film with the 10 free minutes; for the others you need minutes in your pack. Before buying you can also open the example film, already dubbed, and try “Change the words” on one of its scenes. Your balance and history are on the My minutes page.
When you sign up you get, once, 10 minutes of dubbing for free in one language. You upload the whole film (up to 1 hour 30 minutes), choose the minute to start from and the language: we analyse and dub only those 10 minutes. When the scene is ready we email you.
The whole film stays saved for 7 days from its last use. If you like it, under the scene you'll find “Dub the rest of the film”: we redo the whole film, your 10 minutes too, so voices and names stay the same from start to finish, and you only pay for the length minus 10 minutes. The site tells you which pack is enough.
The 10 free minutes are only for dubbing: they can't be used for the novel, the screenplay or “Change the words”. Each day we give out a limited number: if they've run out, try again the next day, your 10 minutes stay yours.
No: if a job fails, the minutes go back into your pack. They also come back if you delete the film before the job is ready. Redoing a segment that's already done, on the other hand, is paid again.
The dubbed video (MP4), the subtitles (SRT), the screenplay (PDF and Fountain) and the novel (DOCX).
Only you can see your films, plus the administrator for support and security.
To process them we use external artificial-intelligence services: the audio, the text and some frames of the film go through them. Which ones, and what they receive, is in the Privacy Policy.
The film's original file is deleted automatically after 48 hours without use: any work on the film restarts the 48 hours. For the film of the 10 free minutes the whole film stays for 7 days, so you can dub the rest without uploading it again. After that, for a new job that needs the video, it has to be uploaded again.
The products (subtitles, dubbing, screenplay, novel) stay in your account until you delete them.
Every film has the Delete button: it removes the film and everything in it straight away.
For the account, click your name at the top and open the Account page: the “Delete your account” button removes the account, all the films and the remaining minutes straight away.
If you signed up with Google, use the Google button. If you use email and password and can't remember it, choose “Forgot your password?”: the link is valid for one hour.
After signing up with email we send you a confirmation link, valid for 48 hours: if you can't find it, check your spam folder.
Once signed in, open Support and write to us: the request reaches us and you get the reply by email and on the same page, where you can carry on the conversation. Without signing in you can write to contatti@moviecinelab.com.
