Dubbing a whole film

Upload a film.
Hear it dubbed.

MovieCineLab gives each character a different voice, keeps the original music and sound effects and, from the same film, makes subtitles, a screenplay and a novel. It does it all by itself, and if you like you can rewrite any line.

Charade (Stanley Donen, 1963), minute 5. Three characters, three voices, eight languages. You can switch language while the scene plays: this is the dub as it came out, no line was touched up by hand.

Frames from the example films, free of rights: Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Charade (1963).

Four things come out of a film

You choose them: just one or all of them, even later on. Each starts from the same work on the film, done only once.

Dubbing

A voice for each character, kept for the whole film. Lines are adapted to last as long as the original. In 9 languages.

OriginalHe's hiding something from me, Sylvie, something terrible, and it frightens me.

ItalianMi nasconde qualcosa, Sylvie, qualcosa di terribile, e mi spaventa.

RomanianÎmi ascunde ceva, Sylvie, ceva teribil, și mă sperie.

Who speaks. The whole film is listened to: the lines, the characters and who says what are recognised. Each character gets a voice, male or female, that stays the same from beginning to end and, when the film allows it, takes on the timbre of the original one.

The timing. Each translated line is counted in syllables and adapted to fit the time of the original, so voices don't overlap and don't stop halfway through a scene.

The rest of the soundtrack. The original voices are separated from the music, noise and effects: under the new voices you hear the film as it was.

In ten-minute segments. You can dub one to try it or ask for all of them. The first time, the film has to be prepared (characters and screenplay), then the segments arrive one after the other and you can listen to the first while the others are being made. When they're ready you download the whole dubbed film as an MP4.

Mistakes. Recognition is automatic and sometimes gets it wrong, especially with similar voices or characters who speak little: a line given to the wrong character can be fixed with “Change the words”.

Subtitles

Before the subtitles, the film is transcribed and listened to again: misheard words (names, places, period terms) are corrected by comparing them with the rest of the film.

You get them in SRT format, the one read by VLC, TVs and almost every player. In the film's language and translated into Italian, English, French, Spanish and German; if you dub the film, also in the dubbing language.

They are always included: they cost no minutes.

The film is split into scenes, with the place and time of each, the characters with their names and the action described by looking at the images, not just by listening.

You download it as a PDF, laid out like a script, and as Fountain, the text format opened by screenwriting software. In Italian, English, French, Spanish or German.

It's also used for dubbing: if you dub the film, it's included.

Novel

The film told as a novel, in a document you can read and edit.

Chapter 1 · Under water

Before she even opened her eyes, Giulia had seen a thick, closed blackness. Then a pale blue colour had opened up in the black, blurred, like folded cloth. A white line of writing had passed in front of her, meaningless. She hadn't had time to read it: the water had taken her.

Opening from another of our trials.

From the film's story comes a novel divided into chapters: scenes become narrative, the dialogue stays the characters' own.

You download it as a DOCX, to open with Word or LibreOffice and edit as you like. In Italian, English, French, Spanish or German.

Reel 2 · In the dubbing studio

Make them say whatever you like

Every dubbed line can be rewritten. You change the words, or the character who says them, and half a minute later you hear it again in the same voice, in its place in the scene.

As you type, the page counts the syllables: if the new line falls outside the length of the actor's line it tells you, and you fix it before listening again. Use it to play with a classic, or to fix a sentence you'd like to be different.

The timing. The new line must have roughly the syllables of the one it replaces: that way it fits in the same time and the scene doesn't shift.

Only that line. The chosen line is redone, the rest of the segment doesn't change. You can listen to the earlier version and the new one, side by side.

Cost. A tenth of a minute per correction: with 1 minute you make 10 corrections. If a correction fails, you don't pay.

Try it for free. Before buying you can try it 3 times on a scene from the example film.

In the film: They're coming to get you, Barbara.

Automatic dubbing (Italian)
Vengono a prenderti, Barbara.10 syllables
10 syllables, fine (9 to 11)

Try typing: it counts syllables like the real page (Italian rules). The scene is from Night of the Living Dead (1968).

You can use a file from your computer (mp4, mkv, avi, mov, webm) up to 1.6 GB, or the link of a film on a public archive such as archive.org. YouTube links don't work: download the file and upload it.

Whenever possible, the length is checked before downloading: a film over an hour and a half is stopped straight away.

With every upload we ask you to declare that the film is free of rights or that you have the right to use it.

10 free minutes. After signing up you upload the whole film, choose the minute to start from and we dub those 10 minutes for free in one language. If you like it, you dub the rest without uploading it again.

As soon as it's uploaded, the film is listened to and transcribed. Then you ask for the products you want, each in the language you want.

You can come back to the film whenever you like: the original stays available for 48 hours after the last job (7 days for the film of the 10 free minutes), and every new job restarts the count.

  3. 3Watch and downloadDubbing goes ten minutes at a time: you listen to the first piece while the rest is being made.

For a film of an hour and a half, roughly: the subtitles in about half an hour; the first time, the preparation for dubbing takes about an hour, then each segment of ten minutes arrives in about twenty. The novel takes a couple of hours.

You don't need to stay on the page: the work carries on even if you close the browser. With other jobs in the queue, times get longer.

You download the dubbed video (MP4), the subtitles (SRT), the screenplay (PDF and Fountain) and the novel (DOCX).
